Ice Bucket Challenge (July)
The year’s biggest viral video craze, the ice bucket challenge, was the trend of the summer, soaking the country in freezing water and charitable giving, all in hopes of finding a cure for ALS.
Beyonce’s VMA Performance (August 24)
Emma Watson’s United Nation’s Speech (September 18)
Actress Emma Watson helps launch the United Nation’s Women campaign HeForShe, which calls for men to advocate for gender equality. Her speech receivined a standing ovation at UN Headquarters in New York City.
Malala Yousafzai Receives Nobel Prize (October 10)
17-year old Malala Yousafzai becomes the youngest-ever Nobel Prize receipient. Malala is best known for her advocacy of the education of young girls and women in Pakistan, despite an assassination attempt and threats by the Taliban.
San Francisco Giants Win World Series (October 29)
